An Open Letter to My Bride

I am so incredibly PROUD to call you my wife in a few short hours. You have introduced such joy into my life over the past few years. While I try to think of what to put in this letter, I can’t help but smile and laugh.

When your Dad gave us a toast at our engagement party, he said there is nothing more beautiful than friends falling in love. We have built so many memories over our relationship because of our friendship. From our summer together at Davidson, to our back to back frolics drinking picture, to our occasional night in CharLit, you make spending time with you seem so natural. You are truly amazing in your ability to build friendships with people, and it is so evident in the fact that we can mix our bridesmaids and groomsmen. You have given us so many friends, with each one being so unique. We have surrounded ourselves with such quality friends, and I couldn’t be more excited to marry my best one.

These past few years have not been without their challenges. We had to get through division one athletics, you working jobs you didn’t want to, living in two different cities, my struggle to find a job, the stress of PA school applications, and so much more. If there is one thing that the stress of life has showed me, it is your strength and ability to endure. You work hard in every single aspect of your life. It isn’t a surprise you were accepted into PA school the first year you applied out of two thousand applicants, because you earned it. You never lost faith in me when I was looking for a job, and supported me every step of the way, because you wake up every day with such strength. I am so thankful to have a wife with such resiliency.

That strength is one of the initial reasons I was attracted to you. I needed someone in my life that was a daughter of Christ. You have been such a spiritual leader in my life. I really believe that God put you in my life to show me the goodness of the Lord. You are so diligent at getting us to church on Sundays, reminding us to pray, and by surrounding us with other children of Christ. They say that even on days where you aren’t happy, you can be joyful in the Lord. Thank you for making it so easy to be both.

When our life occasionally does slow down, you make the mundane aspects so fun. Getting you into Game of Thrones (and having to pause every two seconds to explain to you characters, and who Rhaegar Targaryen is for the hundredth time), watching Parks and Rec, crying during animated movies, laughing at you for eating snack mix right after dinner, drinking all of the wine, impulsively getting milkshakes, trying to wake you up from a nap, eating tacos, trying to teach you how video games work, cudsing, playing with chipper, and countless others, you take all the redundancy out of everyday ordinary life.

All of these aspects make me so excited for the future. As I said, I am so proud to marry you. You are such a beautiful woman. Through all your strength, resiliency, friendships, love, and everyday joy you bring to my life, I am so hopeful for the future. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you! I love you so much.

You will always have a friend in me,
